Shawnee Mission Kansas, IMR Legendary Powders is clarifying recent misconceptions about TRAIL BOSS gunpowder. TRAIL BOSS is a 100% SMOKELESS propellant. Various articles and blogs have appeared miss-stating that TRAIL BOSS is a blackpowder/muzzleloading type propellant. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Since TRAIL BOSS is smokeless it does not require any special cleaning like muzzleloading powders. Using TRAIL BOSS, or any smokeless powder, in a muzzleloading firearm is never recommended.
The primary advantage of TRAIL BOSS is that even in reduced, low velocity loads such as those popular with Cowboy Action shooting the powder fills the shell case. This not only improves the ballistic uniformity of the load but is an added safety feature for the handloader because an accidental double charge spills over the shell case. Always follow IMR’s loading recommendations exactly as shown in the 2011 Basic Smokeless Manual, Annual Manual and in the RELOADING DATA CENTER at imrpowder.com. For more information on further loading information, contact IMR Powder Company, 6231 Robinson, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202, Phone: 913-362-9455; E-mail: help@ihodgdon.com.
SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND, USA – “The Value of Ear Plug Fit Testing,” a new white paper for Hearing Conservationists, occupational safety professionals, and working doctors who seek to protect employees from hearing loss, is available for download at http://www.hearforever.org/valueoffittesting.
“This new white paper can help professionals charged with occupational hearing protection responsibilities to determine if their workers are achieving the optimal real-world attenuation for their noise environment. This is critical to the success of a Hearing Conservation Program designed to reduce and prevent incidences of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL),” said white paper author Renee S. Bessette, COHC, of Howard Leight®/Sperian Hearing Protection.
To answer the question, “How much hearing protection do employees actually achieve with their ear plugs?,” the white paper explains the need for interactive ear plug fit testing technology as a benefit to both safety managers and employees. It notes that in a recent evaluation, INSPEC International Limited (UK) stated that “the VeriPRO® system (from Howard Leight) appeared to have the potential to aid correct fitting and selection of ear plugs.” Further, INSPEC validated that VeriPRO’s “data demonstrated that it would be a useful tool for ensuring Hearing Conservation within the workplace.”
The white paper includes details of a field attenuation study by the Howard Leight Acoustical Laboratory conducted on over 100 workers at eight different facilities. The study found that one-on-one training was the most significant factor in predicting good ear plug performance and validated the value of ear plug fit testing in preventing NIHL. It also outlined additional benefits of ear plug fit testing, including appropriate product selection and documentation of a proper fit.
“The ultimate goal of an occupational Hearing Conservation program is to ensure that workers are properly wearing their hearing protectors 100% of the time when exposed to hazardous noise and the potential of NIHL. Ear plug fit testing technology that tests any model of ear plug better enables and empowers workers to achieve this goal — and facilitate a life of healthy hearing,” Bessette said.

Miami, Florida, July 21, 2010 – The hunting community is abuzz with talk about Konus and everyone agrees that Konus offers high-quality, reliable optics at an affordable price. That is the basic principle behind Konus, which has been praised by hunters, critics and press nationwide as being the best value for your dollar.
“Konus means quality and dependability to me,” says O’Neill Williams, top outdoorsman and host of TV’s O’Neill Outside. “As an avid outdoorsman, I hunt and fish all over the world, and I know that there is no substitute for quality optics in the field.”
Chad Shearer, world champion elk caller and host of Shoot Straight with Chad Shearer agrees and now recommends Konus to his viewers and fellow hunters. “I am very impressed with the quality of the Konus optics. They are clear, bright and durable. As our viewers know, we demand a lot out of our optics, and Konus makes great products at reasonable prices.”
Konus is also the exclusive brand of optics for CVA, the muzzle-loading division of Blackpowder Products, Inc. (BPI). After decades of using other optics, CVA brand muzzleloader guns are now matched and sold with Konus riflescopes. “The Konus line of riflescopes have emerged as one of the most durable and reliable scopes on the market,” said Dudley McGarity, Chief Executive Officer of BPI.
Based on the feedback from all of these pros, Konus is highlighting some of their finest products for this upcoming hunting season. First up are the critically acclaimed Konus M30 riflescopes, which in a single unit combine the most advance features and the professional specifications on the market to date.
The hunting community is also raving about Konus’ selection of spotting scopes, calling them “unbelievable,” “the clearest” and most “affordable” spotters on the market. Put to the test in the range or in the field, Konus’ powerful spotting scopes are ideal in either environment.
In the area of red dots, Konus recommends their “Sight Pro Atomic”, the smallest and lightest traditional red dot sight currently on the market with all of the features and durability of a full-sized unit in an extremely compact footprint. The UZI Tactical Pen is another one of the tools that every officer should keep in their arsenal for those times that they need to expect the unexpected. Made from high-grade aircraft aluminum, the UZI Tactical Pen, available in Gun Metal Gray is a very durable pen for any work condition, plus the added benefit of being a potential lifesaver!

Jeff Hogan, Senior Law Enforcement Instructor with LMS Defense is proud to announce the opening of Warrior Steel Firearms. Warrior Steel Firearms is a manufacturer of custom 1911's and built to spec AR15 type rifles.
Warrior Steel started operations as a gunsmith outfit providing repairs and custom upgrades to the 1911 weapons platform. After repairing hundreds of pistols, owner Jeff Hogan believed he could improve reliability with his own brand of quality control.
Jeff Hogan is a Law Enforcement Officer who got tired of having his duty 1911’s worked on, only to get them back in worse condition. So, he decided to build his own guns to avoid the hassle of lackluster quality and less than ideal customer service. He started building them for teammates from the Regional Swat Team. Word of the builds began to get around. Eventually, he started building 1911’s for some of the top regarded law enforcement officers and trainers in the country. Jeff knows the importance of an officer having confidence in his weapon system, and it shows in every build. This means if he won't carry it, neither will you.
Warrior Steel now offers two pre-spec'd 1911 packages for sale. The first is a full size 5" 1911 dubbed "The Infidel".The infidel is available in a rail and non-rail model. The second is a commander sized 1911 called the "Path Finder", also available in a railed and non-railed model. Both weapons are built using nothing but American made frames, slides and internals. All internals and accessories are bar stock. No MIM parts are used and never will be. Delivery dates upon order and payment are 3-5 weeks. Each weapon is built per order just in case the customer has a specific requirement.
Warrior Steel also builds pre-spec'd AR15 type rifles and special order built AR15 type rifles.
There is also a retail division located inside the Warrior Steel manufacturing offices. They carry a full line of top quality manufacturers weapons systems. They will also ship to an FFL located in your State.

In August of 2009, Otis Technology made an announcement to their employees that they were once again expanding their facility. The family owned business acquired a nearby property that would meet additional staff parking needs as well as serve as the future home of an employee based training facility. In deciding what to do with the current acquired building and its’ building material after destruction, Otis Board members met with MDS, Mennonite Disaster Service and found the perfect solution.
MDS is a volunteered network through which various constituencies of church can respond to those affected by disaster in Canada and the U.S. While the main focus of MDS is on clean up, repair and building homes, this activity becomes a means of touching lives and helping people regain faith. This program is similar, to and at times works closely with, Catholic Charities, Red Cross and FEMA, Federal Emergency Medical Assistance. MDS Volunteers rebuild and refurbish homes and try to keep as much of the building materials and supplies such as insulation, roofing material, flooring and wood in the local community. It is a passion and mission of Otis Technology to give back where it is needed most. Working with MDS is making it possible for Otis to not only give back, but to give back to many families and help the environment at the same time. Reusing and recycling products extends their lives and keeps them out of the waste stream longer and in this case, tons of solid waste was kept out of landfills. Reuse is a key component of waste reduction. The cost for one truckload of garbage alone is $2100. Also, recycling 1 ton of newspaper will save 17 trees.
Melvin Roes, the New York Unit Area Coordinator said, “We saved at least 6-8 truckloads of material from going into a landfill. This is at least 5 ton of waste! The materials from the house have already helped many local families and will help more along the way as we still have materials that will be used.” Mennonite Disaster Services is also busy helping 300 families in Western New York that were effect by a flood and water damage late August.
Otis Technology has taken other actions in becoming a greener business. Recycled and biodegradable office material is used, community clean up day was held, and scrap metal and excess oil from machinery is reused. Earlier this year, numerous water bottles and the traditional disposable drinking cups were replaced with 10 gallon water jugs and reusable drinking cups. For more information on Mennonite Disaster Services log onto www.mds.mennonite.net. Otis Technology is hoping future generations will be influenced by the actions we take today.

Angle-Head Flashlight Offers Multiple Lighting Modes; Fits in the Palm of a Hand
EAGLEVILLE, PA, July 27, 2009 -- Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting tools for military and tactical personnel, has introduced the hands-free Sidewinder Compact™, an ultra-compact, angle-head tactical light that offers 20 functions from four LED light colors, intensity levels and strobe. So small that it fits in the palm of a hand, the light can be quickly attached to MOLLE gear, a helmet or belt for optimum positioning while on maneuvers.
“The Sidewinder Compact is the most versatile helmet light available, giving military and SWAT personnel a powerful, ultra-light-weight tool to match a broad range of circumstances while in the field,” said Streamlight Chief Operating Officer Ray Sharrah. “The infrared LED is perfect for night-time operations and is compatible with night-vision equipment, while the blue LED aids soldiers and medics when checking for bleeding. The red LED helps to maintain night vision, while the white C4® LED casts the broadest and brightest light. Another unique feature is in that each LED starts off dimly and gradually brightens, an advantage for covert operations.”
Sharrah added that while the light was designed with the military in mind, its features and portability make it ideal for other applications, such as for police as a car visor light. Providing four lighting modes and a strobe in a single light, the Sidewinder Compact boasts a white power C4 LED, which offers two to three times the output of Super High Flux LEDs. Impervious to shock with a 50,000-hour lifetime, the white C4 LED offers 45 lumens of measured system output on the high setting.
In addition, the Sidewinder Compact offers a five-millimeter infrared LED, providing 25mW of radiant intensity on the high output setting; a 5-millimeter red LED that offers one lumen of measured system output on the high output setting, and a five-millimeter blue LED providing 1.8 lumens of measured system output on the high output setting. Each of the lighting modes offers four intensity levels and a strobe mode that operates at 100% intensity.
The Sidewinder Compact delivers more than 70-hours of runtime in the low output level for the white C4 LED and more than 100-hours for the infrared, red and blue LEDs. At the high output level, the white C4 LED provides 5.25 hours, the 5-millimeter infrared LED and 5-millimeter red LED each provide 14 hours, and the 5-millimeter blue LED provides 10 hours.
The light’s compound On-Off mode selector switch ergonomically separates the On-Off, dimming, strobe and LED-selection functions. A rubber dome actuator and four-position pull-to-turn locking rotary selector knob with an Infrared tactile indicator offers easy operation, even with heavy gloves. The light’s pull-to-turn locking rotary selector knob prevents accidental mode changes.
The articulating head allows for precise light placement within a 185-degree range. A strong spring steel clip with integral helmet mount allows for hands-free use. The light’s high-impact nylon case, available in Coyote and Green, offers exceptional durability and weather resistance. The Sidewinder Compact measures 3-inches in length and weighs a mere 2.4 ounces with a single CR123A lithium battery. The light meets MIL-STD-810F, Method 512.4 guidelines for waterproof operation.
The Sidewinder Compact is available with or without helmet mount. The helmet mount version retails for $110; without a helmet mount, the light retails for $80. Both models are backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Advanced technology and unprecedented protection continue tradition of excellence
JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Safariland, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today that it is one of the first body armor manufacturers to satisfy the requirements of the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) new Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06).
Safariland’s XT-700 Type II (#BA-2000S-FC01) and XT-300 Type IIIA (#BA-3A00S-BR01) models have been determined by the NIJ to comply with the new NIJ-06 standard. Both models are part of Safariland’s XT-Series of concealable body armor, and are now available for immediate purchase. As of this date, these are the only Threat Level II and Threat Level IIIA vests that have been authorized by NIJ under the new NIJ-06 standard.
The NIJ introduced the Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard-0101.06 to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor in order to improve performance so that officers receive adequate protection against those threats likely faced over the next decade. According to the new NIJ-06 standard, body armor must now be able to defend against increased velocities of ammunition calibers to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons. These new performance requirements are critical components to improving the life-protecting equipment being used by law enforcement.
“We’ve used our most advanced technologies, including proprietary designs and leading-edge materials, to develop body armor models that provide enhanced ballistic protection to law enforcement officers,” said Safariland President Scott O’Brien. “Our NIJ-06 models continue to illustrate our commitment to saving lives.”
Safariland’s NIJ-06 body armor models set a new industry benchmark by combining their latest technologies -- Geometrics™ and proprietary framing -- with advanced ballistic materials. The new available models include:
- XT-700 Type II – provides advanced ballistic protection in a lightweight, hybrid design.
- XT-300 Type IIIA – provides optimum ballistic performance in a robust design.
With the introduction of these new NIJ-06 body armor models, Safariland continues its tradition of excellence in protecting law enforcement officers. Recently restructured to incorporate all of its previously independent operating brands, the company is united under one name - Safariland. Together, Safariland’s body armor models combine the heritage and expertise of American Body Armor®, PROTECH®, Second Chance®, SAVVY® and Safariland Armorwear. In doing so, Safariland offers the most comprehensive line of body armor available in the industry. Safariland’s NIJ-06 body armor provides law enforcement officers with enhanced performance, durability, comfort and value, which deliver on the company’s motto: Together, We Save Lives™.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Safariland, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today the introduction of its new MOLLE Locking System (MLS™) and Quick Locking System (QLS ™) for law enforcement, SWAT, military and personal protection applications. The two new locking systems allow users to quickly mount, reposition and remove many Safariland holsters or accessories to belts or MOLLE loop-equipped apparel.
The Safariland MLS allows holsters and accessories to be attached to any belt or MOLLE loop-equipped apparel using two locking forks. Squeezing the two forks together and pulling removes the MLS, allowing users to rapidly modify gear arrangements without the need for tools or removal of vests, leg shrouds or belts. The MLS can also be used for mounting holsters and accessories beneath a dashboard inside a vehicle or under a desk in a home or business.
The Safariland QLS attaches holsters and accessories on locking forks similar to the MLS, yet is designed for a duty officer to be able to slide the QLS fork onto the duty belt. The duty plate is designed specifically for the Universal Belt Loop (UBL) and will satisfy a Level I Retention™ pull test.
The Safariland MLS and QLS will work with any Safariland duty, tactical or concealment holster that features a standard three-hole bolt pattern. A Safariland ALS™ (Automatic Locking System) holster is recommended for both applications.
The new Safariland MLS and QLS are available in black, flat dark earth brown, foliage green or OD green.

Trijicon, Inc.®, the world leader in Brilliant Aiming Solutions™ for hunting, law enforcement and military applications, has developed new optical variations to its renowned Trijicon ACOG® models — compact telescopic sights with dual-illuminated reticle patterns for use in low light or at night. Additionally, Trijicon has announced a brand new Trijicon ACOG line of scopes, measuring just four inches long.
In 2009, the following enhancements will be available to select Trijicon ACOGs:
* Green reticles will now be available in many ACOG models, in addition to red and amber. Appearing at the center of the color spectrum, green allows the human eye to adjust to it very quickly and appears very bright in low to no light situations.
* Horseshoe reticle patterns, developed at the request of the United States Military, will be available on the ACOG 4x32 (TA31H) and 3.5x35 (TA11H) model scopes, allowing for very fast target acquisition.
* Reticles calibrated for the 6.8 SPC round, allowing for the conversion of an AR15 into an excellent hog and deer hunting rifle.
Also new for 2009, is a shorter, more lightweight Trijicon ACOG 1.5x magnification model. Measuring almost an inch shorter than the current Trijicon ACOG 1.5x model, this four inch long scope will offer a reduced profile and lighter weight, making it an excellent optic for carry handles or on a flat-top SBR (Short Barreled Rifle). There is also a newly designed circle dot reticle for faster target acquisition. As with all Trijicon ACOGs, the new 1.5x model is dry nitrogen filled to eliminate fogging, is waterproof to 328-feet, features multi-coated lenses to provide superior clarity and light-gathering capabilities with zero distortion, has battery-free illumination, is encased in a forged 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum housing, and utilizes built-in fiber optics to automatically adjust the brightness level and contrast of Trijicon’s illuminated tritium reticle.

January 8th, 2008, LMS DEFENSE LAUNCHES WEST COAST TRAINING FACILITY
Today LMS Defense Inc. and Mustang Range Firearms Training Center LLC announced a partnership which provides for LMS Defense to exercise full functional control of civilian, law enforcement and military tactical training operations at Mustang's 38 acre facility. Conveniently located near Reno, Nevada, this training facility is central to the western United States, is serviced by an international airport, and is close to numerous entertainment and lodging choices.
To complement the existing rifle ranges, SIMS and live fire shoothouses and pistol ranges, LMS Defense plans infrastructure improvments including additional shoothouses, an attack on convoy range, and an explosives training facility. The facility is also located close to two of Northen Nevada's largest raceways, making it ideally located for LMS Defense's integrated vehicle operations training programs.
"The close proximity of the ranges, shoothouses and driving facilities will allow LMS Defense to offer exciting new training programs that allow for the integration of multiple disciplines into our course offerings", said John Chapman, LMS Defense Chief Executive Officer. Jeff Hogan, LMS Defense Senior Law Enforcement Instructor commented, "I am really excited about this advancement in LMS Defense's capabilities. This facility allows LMS Defense to offer police EVOC training with the nearby drivingtracks, full basic and advanced SWAT schools with the availability of live fire shoothouses and integrated force options training with the SIMS house. Traditionally, it has been difficult to find locations that have the breadth of training capabilities this facility offers."
Chapman adds, "LMS Defense and Mustang Range are very pleased to offer the free use of the facility to Washoe and Lyon County local law enforcement. Going forward, LMS Defense will handle all the associated scheduling and coordination of the range resources in addition to providing free quarterly perishable skills training for local law enforcement professionals of Lyon and Washoe counties."
To celebrate the launch of this home range, LMS Defense will be conducting an Open House free of charge, February 9, 2008. The Open House will feature training material from the Pistol I, Carbine I and Medical courses.
Mustang Range will continue to host Nevada CCW classes and their crowd pleasing machine-gun shoots several times a year. Please visit http://www.mustangrange.org for details regarding CCW course offerings and the machine-gun shoots.

September 5, 2007, Blackhawk! Focuses on the Most Common Cause of Preventable Deaths in Tactical Environment
with Launch of its Integrated Tourniquet System™
NORFOLK, VA (September 5, 2007) Mike Noell, President and CEO of Blackhawk! Products Group™ announced the addition of Blackhawk’s Integrated Tourniquet System into their new Warrior Wear® apparel line. At recent events directed towards the Law Enforcement and Military Medical Community, Blackhawk announced that the revolutionary system was in the final phases of testing and should be available during Q1 of Calendar 2008.
“At Blackhawk we get up every morning dedicated to using our resources to help save lives,” explained Noell. “When medics and doctors that deal with combat and tactical medical needs see the system, they at once understand the immediate life saving potential. Four tourniquets in the pants and four tourniquets in the shirt (two in the short sleeve version), correctly positioned and oriented to the upper and lower extremities, are immediately accessible under existing gear and can be operated by the wearer, their buddy, or a medic. Immediate application minimizes loss of blood, the single greatest medical problem resulting in death from injuries sustained to the extremities among our troops today. An additional feature is that our design allows users to train with the system over and over rather than having to replace each tourniquet after a single use, whether during training or in the field using the same system they will wear in tactical operation,” further explained Noell.
“The Integrated Tourniquet System (I.T.S. ™) was the brainchild of Dr. Keith Rose. Dr. Rose, a tactical medicine consultant for Blackhawk’s Special Operations Division, was in the military for several years on a forward surgical team and has extensive field experience in trauma and burns. He is currently working with humanitarian groups worldwide and worked directly with Blackhawk’s R&D team to make sure that the system met real world requirements, and was also consistent with the medical training doctrine typically used by Military, Law Enforcement and the Civilian communities,” elaborated Eric Yeates, Director of Blackhawk’s R&D. “Blackhawk’s Injection Molding Team collaborated on the patent pending design of the Tourniquet System; our Apparel design teams designed the pants and shirts to carry the system, and our Factory’s rapid prototyping capability allowed us to get sample systems into the hands of users very early in the design process so we could incorporate their input from the beginning of the project,” concluded Yates.
“The majority of preventable deaths come from loss of blood resulting from leg and arm wounds that is not protected by body armor. Ten percent of preventable combat deaths are from extremity bleeding and 50-70% of all combat injuries are extremity wounds,” explained Dr. Rose*. The fact that you can always find the tourniquet with the Integrated Tourniquet system and the speed with which you can immediately apply it will dramatically impact not only loss of life but also the amount of time that it takes to recover from extreme blood loss injuries,” Dr. Rose further explains.
Blackhawk intends to incorporate I.T.S. into its current line of apparel and will also license the technology to other manufactures that currently provide apparel to the Military, Law Enforcement, and Outdoor community.

NEW STRIKER II SERIES PERFORMS WITH LIGHTWEIGHT SUPPORT
COMING IN SEPTEMBER, 2007
Danner Uniform Boots Continue Tradition of Building the Best Boot in their Class
The original Striker Series built confidence in the field because stability and durability started from the ground up. Danner has taken an expert quality boot and enhanced it with a new extremely light platform, improved styling and ankle support for the Striker II Series. The new Danner TFX LITE (TERRA FORCE™ X LITE) performance platform provides a solid base with an oil and slip resistant outsole for ultimate agility and stability in the field. The non-metallic hardware is ideal for high level security jobs and quick entry through electronic metal detectors.
There are four new styles to the Striker II Series to meet any environment and condition head on:
* The Striker II DXTVent is developed with Danner’s own DXTVent (Danner Xpert Technology for ultimate breathability) that combines high-performance athletic materials to aid heat and moisture transfer keeping feet cool, comfortable and odor-free. The advanced technology increases breathability and allows for all day boot comfort in warm and extremely hot conditions. The new Striker II DXTVent is built with full-grain leather, fully breathable quarter panels and lining material. The leather is perforated on the instep to allow for maximum ventilation.
* The Striker Side Zip II has all the advanced benefits of the new series, but stands apart with the convenient non-Metallic YKK® side zipper that allows for quick and easy entry and exit. Featuring durable full-grain leather and a waterproof GORE-TEX® liner, the new Striker Side Zip II will stand up against all elements.
* The Striker II has two additional Leather and 1000 Denier Nylon options, the Striker II 8-inch GTX and the Striker 45 II (featuring a 4.5-inch ankle height). These two options provide different heights; both focus on increased ankle support and all the advanced options of the new series. Built to match the harshest conditions, the Striker II 8-inch GTX is the most universal boot in the series. The Striker 45 II is designed for the officer looking for full boot support without a boot feel. Both series options feature a GORE-TEX® liner to provide waterproof protection in the field.
The new Striker II Series will be available in September 2007 in men’s sizes 7-15D, 8-14EE (wide); half sizes available to 12. The Striker 45 II is available in women’s sizes 5-11M. The series is available for a suggested retail price from $135.95.
