Blackhawk! Warrior Wear: Tactical Pants

2007 marked the year that Blackhawk Industries made their entry in the clothing line. When Blackhawk made a decision to move from the tactical gear industry to the apparel industry, they started with a product that everyone needs. PANTS! Dubbed “Warrior Wear”, this new line of apparel including shirts, jackets, pants, and even socks are geared towards military, law enforcement, and citizen warriors.

The first product from this line I was able to test was the Warrior Wear Tactical pants. Made from durable wrinkle, fade, and stain resistant 8.5 ounce cotton canvas, these are not lightweight pants. You discover that when you try them on for the first time. They are built tough to take whatever abuse you send their way. Building off of other successful tactical pant designs the warrior Wear pants feature:

• Durable wrinkle, fade, and stain resistant 8.5 ounce cotton canvas
• Double layering in the seat and knees for increased wear and protection
• Crotch gusset allows increased movement
• Extra-Wide reinforced belt loops accommodate BlackHawk CQB Rigger Belt (and other belts up to 1.75” wide)
• Hidden expandable waistband slides to increase waist size by up to 4 inches
• Rubber grip strips in waistband keeps shirt tucked in during extreme maneuvers
• 550 cord loop on front waistband allows attachment of carabineers and other items
• Hidden zipper pocket behind right hand pocket keeps valuable items secured
• “Angle-cut” hand pockets have flat edges for proper placement and orientation of knives, pens, etc.
• Each leg has an easy-access, top opening mag pouch
• Large top-opening cargo pockets on each leg with elastic webbing inside to secure and properly orient up to three automatic weapon mags
• Zippered rear hip pocket keeps wallet secure, out of the way, and separate from large rear pockets
• S.T.R.I.K.E.™ webbing for BlackHawk modular attachments
• Reinforced hems on leg cuffs and hand pockets increase durability in “high-wear” area

I was, for the most part, quite impressed with these pants after several months of testing them in the field. At the same time, there were also a few things that I wasn’t thrilled about either.

My Likes:
• The rubber grip strips running along the waistband are a great feature. It does a great job of keeping your shirt tucked in no matter what you are doing
• MOLLE/STRIKE webbing on the rear pockets. At first I thought this was cheesy, but I quickly found a new use for it. I found it to be a great place to run my keyring through to hold my keys. Not exactly what Blackhawk had in mind when they designed it, but that’s what I use it for.
• Magazine pockets on the thigh of each leg. When shooting I use it for mags, but I normally put my cell phone in them. The other folks only put one on their pants.
• Adjustable waistband. It’s nice to be able to buy one size of pants and have it work with and without an IWB holster.

My Dislikes:
• I don’t think the openings of the front pockets are large enough. I have a hard time putting fitting my hand in the pockets. Especially with a cell phone in a pocket.
• Some of the interior stitching is too rough and can cause discomfort. People will not wear pants that are not comfortable.

I have worn these pants shooting in various events and in everyday life. They fit in on the range, as well as in the office. I like them more and more each time I wear them. I think Blackhawk has a winner with these pants.
